CALEDONIA — The Mount Morris boys basketball team was able to avoid the upset on Friday night as the Blue Devils rallied from a halftime deficit to stop Caledonia-Mumford 77-67.
The Raiders were up 40-32 a the break before Mt. Morris used a 24-15 third quarter to grab the lead back.
“Cal-Mum came out hot shooting from the arc, hitting 11 threes with Denny Peet hitting 3-of-3 in the second quarter,” Mt. Morris head coach Brian Stout said. “We stayed composed and were able to pound the ball inside on offense.”
Payton Bownds had a big double-double in the win as he finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds to go with six assists, while Mason Santini added 18 points.
Also for the Blue Devils, Ben Bacon had 12 points and five assists and Navier Ford chipped in with 10 points and five assists.
Mt. Morris finished the night 15-of-16 from the foul line, including 4-of-4 down the stretch,
Peet had a big night in the loss for Cal-Mum with a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds and assists.
Jeremy Raymond added 18 points and Nate Doll finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals for the Raiders.
