Marilyn Guillet Ott, 92, of Geneseo, N.Y., passed away peacefully at Highland Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., on June 2, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Edna Guillet of State College, Pa.; and her husband of 52 years, William P. Ott.
She is survived by her three sons, Steven (Sylvia) of St. Louis, Mo., Keith (Betsy) of Geneseo, N.Y., and Daniel of Youngstown Fla.; grandchildren. Elise of Denver, Colo., and Curtis of St. Louis.
Born on Jan. 16, 1929, she was the only child of a Penn State engineering professor and alumni staffer. Marilyn graduated from Penn State in 1950 with her bachelor of science degree and went on to earn her master’s in science at the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y.
Marilyn and Bill settled in Ballston Spa, N.Y., where she taught physiology at Russell Sage and Skidmore colleges.
She was accomplished at all she did – swimming, sailing, tennis, skiing, piano and singing with Sweet Adelines and church choirs. Her true love was the cottage her father built on Horseshoe Island on Stony Lake in Canada where she summered yearly with family and friends.
In 2001, she moved to Geneseo where she became active in many community activities. She and Bill funded an Engineering Chair at Penn State and planned their anatomical donations to U of R Medical School.
Marilyn’s wishes were for no special services but to be returned to Stony Lake for a “last swim.” Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, plans for a Canadian lakeside remembrance will be made at a later date.
Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 23 Main St., Geneseo NY 14454 or St Peter’s-on-the-Rock Church, P.O. Box 1566, Lakefield, ON, Canada KOL 2HO.
The family extends sincere thanks to everyone for your condolences and expressions of sympathy.
