Karen E. Simms

Karen E. Simms, 77, of Rochester died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Wesley Gardens Nursing Home in Rochester, N.Y. Prior to her time spent at Wesley Gardens, she had been a resident of Shore Winds Nursing Facility in Rochester. Karen was predeceased by her parents, George and Evelyn Cottom.

She is survived by her son, Randy Simms, a resident of the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris; brother, Charles (Joni) Cottom of Rochester; niece, Arielle Cottom; of Henrietta and several cousins.

Karen was born July 15, 1943, in Warsaw, N.Y., the daughter of George W. and Evelyn Phillips Cottom. She grew up on Highland Road in Geneseo and graduated from Geneseo High School, Class of 1961. She was a graduate of SUNY Geneseo.

Karen retired from the Monroe County Department of Social Services after many years of dedicated employment. Karen was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church in Mumford and more recently the St. Luke Tabernacle Community Church in Rochester.

Due to COVID-19 there will be no prior calling hours. Memorial Services will be on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo.
