NUNDA – Gerald T. “Jerry” Hotchkiss Sr., 77, of Nunda, N.Y., died Friday July 16, 2021, at home after a long standing medical condition.

Jerry was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Nunda, N.Y., the son of the late Cecil E. and Agnes (Wonner) Hotchkiss. He was a graduate of Nunda (Keshequa) Central School.

Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for one year and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1964 to 1968 during the Vietnam Era, attaining the rank of sergeant (E4) where he was honorably discharged from. Jerry was employed for 20 years by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in the Jail and Road Patrol Divisions for a short time but spent the majority of his 20-year career as a dispatcher on the midnight shift, retiring in 1989. Jerry was a veteran dispatcher and Breathalyzer operator who testified in many court cases. He also served as Village and Town of Nunda justice from 1999 to 2014.

Jerry was married in Nunda, N.Y., on Dec. 19, 1987, to Ellyn M. (Smith) McColl who he has been married to for 33 years.

He was a member of the Nunda United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, wood working, crossword puzzles and building and refinishing furniture.

He was predeceased by a sister, Anne Hotchkiss; and two brothers, Martin and Gary Hotchkiss. He is survived by his sons, Gerald (Sandy) Hotchkiss II of Mississippi, and Thomas (Judy Sica) Burns of Gettysburg, Pa.; his twin daughters, Anne (Mike) Kircherer of Livonia and Janice Hotchkiss of Mount Morris; his wife, Ellyn, of 33 years at home; his stepsons, RJ (Karen) McColl II of Nunda and Jon (Kelly) McColl of Caledonia; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Roberta Mallaber of South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Angel Hotchkiss of Nunda; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Nunda United Methodist Church, 26 East St., Nunda, N.Y., with the Rev. Anne Robinson officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the memorial service at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Nunda, N.Y., at a later date.
