Donald G. Richardson, 93, passed peacefully away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021.
He was born May 23, 1928, the son of Claude George Richardson and Evelyn Jessica Hedges.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ona Joan Sherwood; siblings, Ethel Britton, Percy Richardson, Lucy Barber and David Richardson.
He is survived by his children, Debra Richardson, Sherry Richardson (Jim Montague), Paul Richardson; grandchildren, Hannah and Simon Montague; siblings, Philip Richardson (Arlene Richardson), Hubert Richardson (Pearl Richardson), Betty Lou Barber, Marcel Richardson, Gail Walder (Tom Walder) and Judy Richardson.
Don graduated from Geneseo Central School in 1946 and served a three-year tour in the U.S. Air Force. He started college at Alfred University where he met his future wife, Joan Sherwood, and finished his schooling at Purdue University. From there, he worked as an engineer designing jet engines for Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut and Florida. He later moved to San Diego, Calif., to work for Solar Turbines. His last destination was Coupeville on Whidbey Island, Wash., where he spent the final 23 years of his life.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the Coupeville Lions Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He took up snowboarding, rafted the Grand Canyon, made two Mount Rainier summit attempts and frequently went hiking.
