GLOW counties feel omicron pressures

A COVID-19 Community Testing Site is scheduled to open Tuesday at SUNY Geneseo, part of a second round of COVID-19 testing sites opened on State University of New York campuses across the state.

A site at SUNY Brockport is scheduled to open Thursday.

Sites have already opened at the state University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, and Genesee Community College’s Albion Campus Center, 456 West Ave., Albion.

The sites are opening as record numbers of COVID tests have caused hours-long wait times to get a nasal swab test, backlogging results for several days.

“We are not defenseless as we fight the winter surge. Vaccines, boosters and testing can help us slow the spread and protect our loved ones,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a news release. “These new SUNY sites build on our ongoing efforts to make testing more available as part of our winter surge plan.”

More than 2,000 testing locations are planned statewide, Hochul said.

The sites will be open for appointment-based and walk-in COVID-19 testing from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Each site will maintain capacity for about 225 appointments per day and up to 50 walk-ins.

The Geneseo site will be located in Sturges Hall, 1 College Circle. Appointments may be made at this link, https://tinyurl.com/mrykeu4w.

The Brockport site will be located in Mortimer Hall, Holly Street. Appoints may be made at https://tinyurl.com/32kvyfjt

The University of Buffalo site is in the Center for Tomorrow Building, Flint Road, Buffalo. Appointments may be made at https://tinyurl.com/3rpn6vxx.

The Buffalo State College site is in Alumni Center, 667 Grant St., Buffalo. Appointments may be made at https://tinyurl.com/5n76ectz.

The Geneseo, Brockport and Buffalo sites have testing done by Quadrant BioSciences, which uses an oral, saliva-based PR COVID-19 test.

Genesee Community College’s Albion Campus Center, 456 West Ave. Albion, opened as a testing site in December. The site is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays for tests by appointment and walk-ins. Testing is handled by BioReference Laboratories, which was expected to offer RT-PCR testing, rapid antigen and rapid PCR tests. To make an appointment, go to https://tinyurl.com/2p967vjr.
