ARCADE — A suspect in a Niagara Falls homicide was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in Arcade.
Niagara Falls police said they were seeking Matthew H. Figura Jr. 35, in connection with a shooting death about 8:16 a.m. Thursday at the Niagara Metals scrapyard. He was described as armed and dangerous, and possibly heading toward the Southern Tier.
Figura was observed later by a Wyoming County sheriff’s investigator, said Sheriff Gregory Rudlolph.
The investigator followed Figura until more police arrived.
They conducted a felony traffic stop about 1:15 p.m. and Figura was taken into custody. Police at the time were seeking a black pickup truck with Virginia license plates.
Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restanio confirmed later to Buffalo-area media that both Figura and the victim worked at Niagara Metals. He said a motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately known.
Restanio said he was not sure when Figura would be transported back to Niagara Falls.
The investigation is ongoing. Further details weren’t immediately available as of press time Thursday night.
