The Geneseo Store, SUNY Geneseo students’ and alumni’s go-to destination for village and college merchandise, apparel and gifts for the past 3-1/2 decades, is closing its doors.

“After 35 years we have made the decision to close the business and liquidate all remaining merchandise,” read a Wednesday morning post on the store’s Facebook page. “...the decision to close was not Covid-related. We had planned to step back last year and Covid just prolonged the timetable.”

The store’s last day of business at 90 Main St. in the village will be May 23, though its online store will remain open until June 15, or until all its remaining merchandise is sold. The store will be open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It may add additional hours during finals week at SUNY Geneseo, which runs from May 14 through May 20.

According to its website, the store was founded in 1985 by SUNY Geneseo alumnus Neal Moynihan. He could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
