Matt Leader/Livingston County News Harbor Freight Tools’ latest store at 4349 Genesee Valley Plaza Rd., Geneseo, will open June 29.

GENESEO – A national chain of hardware stores will open a new location in Geneseo later this month.

Harbor Freight Tools’ latest store will be located in the Genesee Valley Plaza, 4349 Genesee Valley Plaza Rd., in the storefront between T.J. Maxx and Dollar Tree that previously housed a Gordmans and, before that, a Peebles.

The store will open June 29, a company spokesperson confirmed Friday, though a grand opening ceremony is set for July 17.

“We’ve been looking to open a location in Geneseo for a number of years so that we can provide the tools and equipment at tremendous values to the community,” said Trey Feiler, a senior vice president with Harbor Freight, in a statement. “In addition to finding a great location, we were attracted by the availability of great associates in the Geneseo area, and we look forward to having them join the Harbor Freight team.”

In a news release in May, the company said it expects its new store to bring between 25 and 30 jobs to the area including sales and logistic supervisors, senior associates, sales associates as well as seasonal opportunities.

The company is still hiring for open positions at the store. Openings for retail stocking associates and retail sales associates posted on the company’s website show a starting wage of $14.65 per hour for both positions. Click here to view the job openings.

Harbor Freight was founded in southern California in 1977 as a phone sales business. It now has 1,100 stores and 23,000 employees in the U.S. According to its website, the company offers more than 7,000 tools and accessories at prices up to 80 percent less than competing brands.

Once it opens later this month, the store will be open from 8 a.m to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The company also has stores in Batavia, Brockport, Rochester, Penfield and Canandaigua.
