LIVONIA – There is simply something unique about a new store in Livonia.
Simply Positive at 23 Main St. features consignment sales, craft items, food products and a large wooden boat.
Owner Dawn Johnston said there is no other store like it in Livonia, and that suits her just fine.
“I wanted it to be different, that is my thing, I don’t want to be like anyone else,” said Johnston. “I like creativity, unique, different and a place that you can come and get that because otherwise you are going to go to Walmart.”
The store originally opened three years ago in Lima, and moved to Livonia on March 6. The conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 8 with the Livingston County Area of Commerce.
The store is a combination of consignment and stuff that Johnston has purchased outright to sell herself. An additional 38 different vendors occupy the space.
“I guess you could call it consignment. It is an opportunity for them to sell and display their works. They have had a rough time because of COVID and not being able to get their goods out,” said Johnston.
Johnston was in the home care physical therapy field before starting her own business.
“It was just a dream and a goal of mine for a long time,” said Johnston.
After seeing the space Johnston said that dream became a reality.
“The space is incredible, it became available, and I thought it was a good mix and a good fit,” said Johnston.
Residents of the area also agreed that the store was a good fit and could not be more happier to see the store here.
“I think it is beautiful. It is a special place to get one-of-a-kind gifts that are locally made and I really enjoy that part,” said Ashley Baranes, a Livonia resident. “In a little town it is nice to be able to support local providers as well.”
With everything from candles to clothing, there is literally something for everyone at Simply Positive.
“I like the variety that they have here,” Livonia resident Hannah Alford said after visiting the store for the first time. “I like the selection.”
In addition to showing off different products, Johnston said she is hoping her store will help to spur other growth in the area.
“I am hoping it will spark some interest for more businesses to open and to bring more people to Livonia,” she said.
Johnston said she is also planning events at the store.
“We do vendor events. We do classes and I am hoping it will help to bring more people to Livonia. We have so much stuff here,” said Johnston.
Simply Positive is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
