CALEDONIA – For the second year in a row Angry Rooster Deli owner Helen Serafine is doing what she can to help people in need on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25.

“Every year you sit down at a big table with all of your family and friends and get stuffed. Last year I thought why do I have to do that when there is people that are not even going to have a piece of turkey,” said Serafine.

To help those in need Serafine, along with a team of volunteers will be serving free Thanksgiving meals to people. Either in-person or by delivery people can get a delicious Thanksgiving meal with all of the fixings.

“We have turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, candied squash, gravy and pies,” said Serafine.

The meals will be served on Thanksgiving Day from 1 to 3 p.m. She said about 60 people had signed up as of last week to have meal delivered to them and another half-dozen plan to stop by to pick them up.

“Thanksgiving is to have turkey. People should not have to go to McDonald’s or make themselves a grilled cheese sandwich,” said Serafine.

Serafine and her staff help put together the meals, but she said it is an effort that she could not have done without help from the community. That is because many of the turkeys that she has been cooking have been donated from local residents.

“This community stepped up and donated so much, turkeys, squash, cranberries and money,” said Serafine.

In addition to feeding the stomachs of people in need Serafine said knowing she has done something good to help someone else is something that makes it all worth it for her.

“We serve everyone at 3:30 p.m., we clean up and then we all sit down here at the deli and have dinner together.

“It is so satisfying at the end of the day to sit down with all of the volunteers and have Thanksgiving, after we have fed so many people. It just feels so much better then not doing that,” said Serafine.

The deli is located at 3178 State Street, Caledonia and anyone interested in getting a Thanksgiving meal can contact them at (585) 294-5208.
