BATAVIA — A flash flood watch has been issued for Western New York.

The watch will be in effect 11 p.m. tonight to 2 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo. The affected area includes Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming and Livingston counties.

Moderate to heavy rain will track northeast along a front stretching east through Western New York, according to the NWS.

Thunderstorms are possible and due to recent substantial rainfall. Localized flooding is a concern.

The amount of rain needed for localized flooding could be reached, especially if thunderstorms or organized areas of slow moving heavy rain occur near city areas and locations prone to flooding, NWS forecasters said.

Rises on rivers and creeks are also expected.
