GENESEO — Livingston County is encouraging local veterans during this week of Veterans Day to take advantage of the county’s Thank A Vet Discount Program.

Through the program, veterans receive an I.D. card identifying them as honorably discharged, which they can use to receive discounts on goods and services from participating businesses throughout the county.

A recently-developed online app makes it easier than ever for veterans to locate these merchants based location or business type, said Livingston County Veteran Services Director Jason Skinner.

“Our Thank A Vet Discount Program mobile app is the first of its kind in all of New York State,” said Skinner. “Through innovations like this, we continue to honor those veterans who currently live here and to attract new active duty military members to Livingston County by showing them how much we care.”

Local businesses looking to participate can submit their information via an online enrollment form, or scan the QR Code with a mobile phone camera. The information submitted will be used to indicate on the app’s interactive map whether a business is veteran-owned, provides a veteran discount, or both.

For more information on the Thank A Vet Discount Program, contact the Livingston County Clerk’s Office at (585) 243-7010.
