GENESEO – Art and inspiration will be on display across Livingston County through July 31.

It is all part of the “Inspirations Trail” sidewalk showcase, where downtown visitors will be able to see various works of art in storefront windows across Livingston County.

“With some of our businesses starting to reopen, this July event will encourage people to visit our Main Streets and will also spread some positive and encouraging messages of inspiration, which I think everyone could use right now,” said Livingston County’s Downtown Coordinator and trail organizer Louise Wadsworth.

The Livingston County Inspirations Trail, a 90-mile self-guided art tour through the county’s nine downtown districts, was originally scheduled to debut June 25. As part of the event, local artists would display works of art in storefront windows. About 100 pieces of art were expected. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the trail’s debuted had to be postponed as some works were unfinished or inaccessible in schools that had been closed in mid-March.

“The idea behind displaying the art in downtown businesses was to help drive traffic to our Main Streets to support our small businesses,” said Wadsworth.

The inaugural Inspirations Trail has now been rescheduled for May 2021, but the sidewalk showcase is still taking place.

“This is sort of a scaled-back sneak preview,” said Wadsworth.

This is the first time an art trail like this has been attempted in Livingston County. It is part of an initiative by Livingston County Economic Development to bring public art to the downtowns.

In time, the trail will include permanent pieces such as murals and sculptures.

The villages of Mount Morris and Nunda have already completed murals that will be part of this inaugural trail and Avon and Livonia are in the planning stages for future murals.

“I want people to see that anyone can be an artist,” said Wadsworth.

After July 31, the pieces that are on display will be collected and stored until being displayed again next May - along with many more new pieces.

Downtown businesses with a display window can host artwork and be promoted as a stop on the trail by sponsoring the May 2021 Inspirations Trail. Following the May 2021 Inspirations Trail, all works will be available for sale.
