BATAVIA — Unemployment rates continue to decrease in the GLOW region compared to the same time last year.
A report from the state Department of Labor compared unemployment rates in April 2022 and 2023. It shows small but minor decreases as unemployment also decreases statewide.
State statistics included:
n Genesee County — About 700 people were unemployed this past April, with an unemployment rate of 2.3 percent. That compares to about 900 people unemployed in April 2022, with an unemployment rate of 2.9 percent.
n Livingston County — About 800 people were unemployed this past April, with an unemployment rate of 2.5 percent. That compares to about 900 people unemployed in April 2022, with an unemployment rate of 3.1 percent.
n Orleans County — About 500 people were unemployed this past April, with an unemployment rate of 2.9 percent. That compares to about 600 people unemployed in April 2022, with an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent.
n Wyoming County — About 500 people were unemployed this past April, with an unemployment rate of 2.8 percent. That compares to about 600 people unemployed in April 2022, with an unemployment rate of 3.3 percent.
n Hamilton County has the state’s highest unemployment rate outside New York City.
About 100 people were unemployed this past April, with an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent. That shows no real change since April 2022, although the unemployment rate was 5.5 percent at that time.
n The Bronx had the highest rate of unemployment statewide.
About 42,700 people were unemployed this past April, with an unemployment rate of 7 percent. That compares to about 47,900 people unemployed in April 2022, with an unemployment rate of 8 percent.
